The games were held in Phuket, Thailand for the first time in 2000 and were held over the weekend of 27th – 29th May. ******This year saw Japan arrive without their Hakka but brought the Toucan as their mascot instead, unwittingly beginning the tradition of the dastardly theft of said bird which has been a feature of almost every AGG since.

It obviously worked wonders for them, as they won the cup for the first time preventing Singapore from achieving a 3- a-row in the final.
Hong Kong ladies once again proved too strong for all opposition.
Description of the Men's Games…
**** Singapore beat Hong Kong A in the first semi-final. Japan A beat Taiwan A rather easily in the other semi, after trailing by seven points at half time. Singapore Vs Japan A. A repeat of the previous years final. The final was played at a frantic pace, and some early defensive errors left Singapore on the back foot. Two sloppy goals conceded, and thereafter Singapore were chasing the game.
For the second half, Singapore game out fighting early, but it was to become apparent that Japan wanted to win this game more than Singapore. Another batch of defensive errors saw a series of goals conceded, rendering the game beyond Singapore's reach. Singapore always had chances to close the gap, but goal opportunities were squandered and vital possession surrendered too easily. It wasn't to be Singapore's day, and after a half-hour break due to a serious injury to Japan's Joe Burke, the game resumed only to finish with a certain anti-climax. Japan were worthy winners, and their superior squad depth was to be the major factor between the teams.
