A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... the Shanghai Gaelic Football Club was founded with an aim to occasionally play football and otherwise be a leading force in the craic around Asia. As the years have passed, players have come, others have gone, while most have just got older, but the drive to compete - on the field and off - burns as strong as ever. This year sees another multinational team, flying flags from around the globe. The usual bunch of Irish misfits return, bolstered by a raft of English, Australian, Swedish, American, Spanish, German & Italian players, plus a complement of local Chinese. The 2009 ACB Coach of the year Dec Sullivan returns, with his sidekick Dec Nolan leading the Ladies, both a sadistic as ever and with a range of new plans to make the most of this mixed squad of mercenaries. Shanghai arrives with a mixed record. Results for the men have been up and down recently, but on the other side of the ledger, the women defended their All-China title in Shenzhen earlier this year. But if there's one this we know - Shanghai doesn't like to take a backward step and will be once again fighting for every inch in 2010. However, all of this wouldn't be possible without the ongoing generous support of our sponsors; Moore-Watson Mineral Processing, Blue Frog, Ireland World Expo Pavillion, Guinness & Carlsber - we thank you for supporting our team. |
