Orang Eire Orang Éire Malaysia is the new Gaelic football team from Malaysia comprising mainly of antiquated Irish males who should know better. While Malaysia was represented before in the Asian Games, the connection somehow fell into abeyance and it was not until the Singapore Gaelic Lions hassled a few celts out of the woodwork that a new 2007 team was born. The name is taken from the Bahasa word for people - Orang - and the savagery of the team is well represented by the lazy, fat orangutan in their logo. Having trained primarily with the KL Warriors Aussie rules team, Orang Éire Malaysia bring a spirited, if not exactly skillful, style of play to the competition. Many of their members are competing directly against the advice of medical professionals and an entertaining display of some kind of athleticism is guaranteed. If nothing else, listen out for their howls of agony as another dodgy knee collapses and auld football injuries reassert themselves. At the time we went to press they were still in negotiations over sponsorship but expect a good turn out from one of the newest teams team in the competition. |
