| Ladies Gaelic in Asia |
|
Though the Asian Gaelic Games began in 1996, the first Ladies Cup was not contested until a couple of years later and the inaugural winners of the competition were the Hong Kong Ladies. At the time there were only 3-4 teams in the region with Ladies squads. Over the Past 10 years or so the Ladies game has grown considerably and we now have 19 Clubs in Asia & the Gulf with Ladies squads, many of them new in the past 2 years. There are now between 400 and 460 players in the region. Each year the competition intensifies and the standards & skill levels are increasing with every tournament. It is testament to the dedication of players & clubs in the region and the buzz generated at the Asian Tournaments that players are willing to fly long distances around the region at their own expense to attend these tournaments. This year the Asian County Board has drawn up a plan for the Development of Ladies Football in the Region and over the next few years is committed to the continual growth and diversity of the game here.
