| 2011 Asian Gaelic Games update |
|
Preparations are well and truly underway for the 2011 Asian Gaelic Games in Suwon this October. Hopefully by now in each of your clubs training is in full swing, flights are booked, hotels reserved and the kit is ordered ahead of the biggest weekend of the year.
An update on the Games themselves - The latest numbers submitted by the Clubs in the Region is that this years games will be as big, if not bigger than the 2010 games in Hong Kong. Along with all of the usual suspects, teams new to the AGG this year will include 2 new clubs from Korea itself - Laochra Busan GAA and Daegu Fianna. Additionally we are hoping to include a team from Manilla for the first time since the games were hosted in Manilla way back in the early years of the games. And from the Gulf, Abu Dhabi Na Fianna will be bringing a Men's team to the Games - the club has been in existance since the mid 1990's but this is the first time they will travel to the AGG. Arabian Celts will be bringing a Ladies team to the AGG also for the first time. So, lots of new faces to welcome this year - and initial numbers indicate there will be about 620 players, from 24 clubs fielding approx 55 teams. Get your Vote in on the ACB poll on the home page - Who is going to win the Derek Brady Cup and the Ladies Cup this year...??? In a year of firsts - this year's games will also see the very first Camogie match played at the Asian Gaelic Games. Dubai and Singapore along with players from all around the region will be taking the field wielding Caman's and ready for action on Sunday 16th. Here's hoping it is the beginning of Camogie in Asia for years to come. All Camogie players are welcome - contact the ACB or see here for more details. On the Social side - Seoul Gaels have announced theme for the Sunday Night banquet is "Famous Couples" - so get your heads together in your clubs for gear for that.
